The 2019 vintage began with a cooler winter and average precipitation that led to pushing the bud break in mid-April. The climate then quickly warmed vines into rapid growth. While we did receive some spring rain, the climate was dryer than normal, reducing disease pressure. The summer months become quite hot at times and continued dry weather caused vine growth to temper which allowed for a healthy canopy. During August, the vines endured some violent storms before entering a beautiful final two weeks leading into our September harvest. The Cabernet Franc was harvested over 5 days, block by block, based on the ripeness of each terroir unit. Yields were average and fruit produced from each block were beautiful representations of our individual soils. The Riserva is composed of a blend from the best parts of the two best performing blocks, Buck Mountain and Free Union. The Classico is a blend of the remaining fruit. Both wines were aged 4.5 years in various sized Italian botte before the Riserva blend was made and finished aging in a 15hl and the Classico in a 7.5 hl. Both were bottled in Spring of 2024.
